About

This blog was inspired by From the Green Dictionary, a blog that posts a list of Arabic words and phrases every day based on a theme from the blogger’s life or current events.  I was so inspired by it that I decided to do the same for Mandarin Chinese, especially since I’m about to go to China and will be using Chinese in my daily life.

I may not update daily, but I hope to post new entries at least a few times a week.  Each entry will have at least 3 vocabulary words, phrases, or idioms, and some will have a “Vocab in Context” section putting the new words in a short narrative or dialogue.

About Me

I’m a recent college graduate interested in language teaching and Chinese studies.  I’m currently preparing to teach English in China beginning February 2009, and will use this blog to record these experiences.  Eventually I hope to teach Chinese in a public U.S. high school.  I also enjoy knitting, yoga, vegetarian cooking, fruit, and any kind of tea.

At Hampshire College, I completed a self-designed concentration focusing in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages), second language acquisition theory and research, Mandarin Chinese language and literature, and German language and literature.  I’m currently enrolled in a summer immersion Mandarin Chinese language graduate program through Middlebury College in Chinese studies, with an emphasis on teaching Chinese as a foreign language.

I can be contacted by replying to this page or any post.  If you’d prefer, I can contact you back via email.
